Dentures Are Not Inevitable for Everyone As They Age
Posted on 4/20/2018 by WDG Office
There are quite a few people who believe that they will wind up wearing dentures no matter how well they take care of their teeth. They believe that once they reach a certain point, their teeth will simply begin to fall out due to old age.
This is a myth. You can keep your teeth from childhood until you pass away of old age, if you care for them properly and have a great dental team (like us) to help support you during that time.
How to Keep Your Teeth for a Lifetime
The best way to keep your teeth for your entire lifetime is to make sure you take care of them properly from the start.
What you want to do is make sure you brush them the right way. This means getting all of the bacteria and debris off of them, twice each day. This should be in the morning and at night.
Then, you also need to make sure you scrape your teeth with floss at least once per day. You no longer want to saw the floss up into the gaps between your teeth.
That can hurt your gums. Instead, you want to gently slide it between your teeth, then scrape it back out. You need to do this twice, since you need to scrape each tooth individually.
Plus, you need to go in and see the dentist once every six months. This is for cleanings, checkups, fillings as necessary, and so that anything that is going wrong in your mouth can be discovered as early as possible. The sooner it gets detected, the easier it is to treat.
