Since you are using your teeth every day, accidents are bound to happen that will make you feel remorseful.

This is so, especially when your dental crown suddenly breaks amidst eating your favorite food or when you are biting something hard and half of your teeth suddenly falls off.

While there are ways to prevent a broken dental crown from happening, it can be hard when it already exists. Here are some ways to address a broken dental crown:

Get an Over-the-counter Pain Reliever

A broken dental crown exposes the dentin which will make your teeth extra sensitive. Drinking hot or cold water will be difficult and a sudden change in temperature will make you wince in pain. Examining the area and looking at the possible damage can help you determine if you need to seek treatment right away.

Also, if you experience minor pains, an over-the-counter pain reliever will help you get through the day until you are able to visit your dentist.

Immediately Schedule an Appointment with Your Dentist

The best thing to do when you experience having a broken crown is to schedule an appointment with your dentist right away. It is often difficult to assess the extent of the damage on your own and only your dentist can evaluate your damaged tooth´s condition.

Visiting your dentist immediately can also prevent further damage from the tooth especially if there are existing cracks that might possibly start to fall off. It will also save you from having a bleeding tongue because of the sharp edges of the teeth.

Sometimes, visiting your dentist may not be immediate, and it can be hard to do everyday activities when you will different inside your mouth.

If your dental crown breaks and want to have it checked immediately an emergency dentist can help you right away. But if you want to know more facts on how to deal with a broken crown, simply contact us and we can provide you with more information.
